August 4, 2008 It was a Scorcher Today in O'Fallon MO

We played at home today since the weather was 98 degrees plus with the humidity and heat index. The news said it felt like 113 degrees. Eek! We didn't even go out to swim in her swimming pool, because it was so hot!

We had breakfast with Grandpa and then came home and played. Grandpa likes to give her the creamer cups to play with once they are empty. Sophia loves to crinkle them up in her hands, look inside them and throw them on the floor. Today I put one of her fruit/veggie puffs inside for her to take out of the creamer cup. She really enjoyed, concentrating with all her might to get the puffs out of the little cup with her tiny fingers. It is amazing how the simplest things in life will entertain a child for hours.

Sophia is learning to ride her baby tricycle. Although she is not walking on her own yet, she loves being mobile. We rode it inside today on the carpet in the family room. She grabs my hands whenever she wants to walk somewhere or she rolls across the floor. Today, she got up on her knees to crawl, but she ended up scooting on her bottom. Next, she stood up on all fours. It looked like she was trying to stand upright, but she couldn't figure out how to get her top half of her body upright. She also rolls and then turns over and sits up. She currently has two teeth that are visible, but are not fully in. I think she may be trying to cut her top front teeth because she kept lifting up her dress and chewing on it whenever she wasn't eating or drinking.

This evening when Scott returned home from work, we let Sophia and Brandy, our dog, play together. They had a great time. Sophia has started grabbing the dog's toys off of the floor and throwing it so she can see the dog run after it. She loves watching Brandy run and laughs out loud when Brandy runs after the toys we have tossed. Sophia can't throw very far, but the dog is a good sport and gets the toy even if she doesn't have to get up and run to retrieve it.

Sophia tried a new food last Friday. I gave her a mini box of raisins and opened the top for her. She enjoyed getting the raisins out of the box one at a time and eating them and tossing them on the floor under her high chair. What a mess it is to let a baby try to feed herself. Get the Dustbuster out or call Brandy, our dog over the baby is eating again.
