A beautiful angel arrived in our lives yesterday!

Meet Kaylee Mae Sikes

Look how small she is compared to the size of my hand.

Welcome to the world Kaylee Mae Sikes! She arrived into our lives at 1:21AM 4/27/2010. She was 6 lbs 9 oz, 19 3/4 inches long and really skinny. She is 5 weeks early so she is in the Special Care Nursery at St Luke's.

This is a much different experience than when darling Sophia was born. She was in my room, but Kaylee has to stay in the Special Care Nursery until she is a little stronger. I was on bedrest and had a major incident which caused us to go to the ER. Since she was almost 35 weeks, the OB decided not to stop the contractions and other issues and have her join our family early via emergency C-section. All in all it was a very rough day for me, but it was all worth it in the end for me to have this beautiful angel join our family. I can't wait to hold her again soon in the Special Care Unit.

Sidewalk chalk

Wow! This chalk holder keeps chalk off of my hands and clothes.

Hopscotch doggy, jump!

1,2,3,4,5 and so on..... She doesn't really understand it fully but it is great practice for her to jump on the numbers I ask her jump on, not to mention sneaking in a little exercise.

"Mommy, where's my rock go for hocksgotch?"
That is how she pronounced hopscotch.

Cat dressed up

Sophia is really into dress-ups these days. I was returning back to the room this morning from getting ready for my doctor's appointment to find my cat dressed up like this.

Sophia said she was having a birthday party for her so she put on a hat, a bib, and beads around her tail. I have to admit it was funny to see this cat all dressed up. I happened to have my phone in hand and snapped these photos.

I am thankful this cat is such a good sport and tolerates Sophia and all her funny toddler antics. They have been best buddies since Sophia was born. Honestly, it will be a miracle if she survives being sat on, laid on, loved and hugged on by my cat loving daughter.

My other cat will let Sophia feed her in the morning and pet her for a second or two and then she runs for cover. IMHO, she is a smart cat to run. She is not into dress ups and hanging on the couch with Sophia.

Pretending - going to the beach

"Mommy, I going to the beach!" said Sophia.

I asked, "Do you have your beach towel!"

"Yes, I have towel." replied Sophia.

Sophia is really start to pretend play. She put on her hat, arm flotation rafts, and got her purse.

Also, She dressed her favorite cat up in a beaded necklace and a hat. I should have taken a pic of that with the hat covering most of the cat and beads hanging across her and half off her tail.

"Come on Kitty cat. Where did your hat and necklace went?" questioned Sophia.
( I felt bad for the cat and took them off so she wouldn't get caught somewhere.)

"Be quiet Mommy! The cat is taking a nap!"

Sophia covered her cat up with a doll blanket I made for her dolls and brought her a toy to sleep with, Minnie Mouse.

Sophia has always loved to read books. Here is her new favorite series of books

Sophia loves hearing stories every night at bed time. Not only do we read books at night but often read a book here and there throughout the day.  I can appreciate all the Disney Princess books but honestly needed something different.  I was so tired of reading the same stories again and again.  This gave us a new alternative.

My friend and neighbor introduced us to Petalwink, the fairy, books today.  She had an open house at her home for us to meet the author and see the books. I went there to check out the books and fell in love with them. The author was as sweet as she could be and wanted to know all about my daughter.  She signed all the books that I bought today.   I bought all the books that are currently available. There are seven in the series but only four have been published and on hand for purchase. The author signed the first four books in the series for Sophia.

We read the first one tonight and Sophia loved it so much that she wanted me to read it again and again. Then, she asked her daddy to read it too.   I didn't tell her that there were more for fear that we would have to read them all tonight and be up all night.  I can't wait to read the next three in the series. They have a great message in them for the kids too.

AM easter egg hunting in the house

The Easter bunny came by the house and hid the Easter eggs for Sophia to find. As soon as she got up, she went hunting.

Here's the first egg.

Oh, look there is one near the pet pillow.

How many are in her Elmo basket?

"Kitty, did you see that egg?"

"Did you see eggs?"

Are there any on the music room?

The bunny left one by the front door.

Here's a few more.

This one looks a little like Elmo.

On the piano, she found another.

Two baskets because one is just not enough...

She collected three baskets full of eggs. Happy Easter morning!

Ready to go to purina farm with her cousins

Sophia is so excited. My cousins are coming by to take her to Purina for the day.

She is so excited

She has everything plus, she needs.  She wanted to take toys too, but I encouraged her not to take the very large Elmo or any other toys for that matter. You should have seen what she packed in her own backpack before I took all the toys out and replaced it with her lunch.  She has Elmo, cup of water, lunch packed in her owl backpack.

Here, she is showing us her backpack with her lunch. She requested an apple and a sandwich for her lunch. I added some grapes and raisins too for snacks.  She is wearing her raincoat because it was really overcast last Saturday.

She is anxiously waiting for Roslyn, Vanessa, Nathan, and Jamie Ray to arrive. Jamie Ray is about 6 months younger than her so they will have fun exploring and playing together.

"Mommy, I taking the paper off the birthday cake."

I told her that is the cone but she says it is the paper and started peeling it off of the cake.

Planting the seedlings

Spphia is Planting squash in this bucket.

The weather was beautiful today and our seedlings that we planted have sprouted into small plants. It is time to plant them. As you can see we sat outside on the deck and Sophia planted the small plants in the soil. She got quite a kick out of digging in the soil.

Here, she is breaking apart the potting soil. She also fertilized them, fed, and watered the small plants.

Cucumber plants

Cucumbers

The cucumbers are also planted in large pots to get started.

Beans

Sophia planted the beans in smaller pots for now.

Hopefully, we will have some veggies grow out of these. We have lots more to plant but will need to get more soil for our pots from the store.

At least, we have s few of the bigger plants getting started.

Trying on new clothes

Sophia got strawberries and Twinkies all over her first outfit today so before 10:00am, we had to change into a different shirt with her jean shorts. She added the hat since it was blue. She said after I put her shirt on her, "Mommy I need my blue hat with this top!". She hurried over to get it and put it right on.

Then, she grabbed her new surprise grandma brought over yesterday. She wanted to paint but I told her since we just put new clothes on we would have to wait until mommy felt up to helping her change again into something else and a smock for painting.
